The security level determines how finely a document is cut — and therefore how much effort any reconstruction would take. As a guide to which level fits which protection need:

P-4 covers most confidential office documents. For personnel, finance and secrecy-critical files, P-5 is recommended; for the highest requirements, P-7 with 1×1 mm micro-cut.
Cross-cut (P-4) divides the sheet into many sections. Micro-cut (P-5/P-7) produces much finer particles — the finer the cut, the higher the security level.
On the 200-sheet model you place the stack in the tray, close the lid and start — the machine feeds sheet by sheet on its own and shreds unattended.
